Brick Making Process

Loading Shovel

Clay is sourced locally within half mile, therfore cutting down on the impact to the environment. Blue coal measure shale is blended with a brown shale to create the mix required for the type of brick that phoenix produce. this mix is loaded into a box feeder which travels along a conveyer system into the grinding pans, where it is crushed into fine particles.

Pack Former

From the pans, the clay then travels to the brick machine, which extrudes and cuts the column of clay to the correct size. Here we see green bricks being stacked by machine into packs to be transferred to the dryers.

Green bricks in kiln

After 1 week of drying, bricks are then set using electric forklift in the kiln, ready for firing.

Packing area

Bricks are removed from the kiln, and brought to the packing area, where they are blended and graded into best, selected seconds, seconds and waste. From here the packs are banded, shrinkwrapped and put onto stock.
